Mary-Anne Martell

Mary-Anne Martell, Principal and Senior Legal Counsel, Seacoast Law, Westbrook, MaineSeacoast Law’s Founder, Principal and Senior Legal Counsel, Mary-Anne Martell is a native Mainer whose varied life and professional experience brings an unparalleled level of understanding, empathy and dedicated service to her clients. Mary-Anne’s areas of legal practice include corporate, contract, real estate and equine law. She also is the law firm’s administrator.

After spending time as a welder and factory worker, Mary-Anne went back to school and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Maine in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and proceeded to earn her juris doctorate from the University of Maine School of Law in 1995.

While pursing her education, she ran a local catering business, was a congressional intern for Congressman Tom Andrews and was selected as a Maine Policy Scholar under the mentorship of the Honorable Frank M. Coffin of the First Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mary-Anne brings a unique perspective to the practice of law. She has worked in and run several small businesses and faced the issues business owners face – making payroll, dealing with contracts, employment issues, buy/sell agreements. As she says, she is “a business person who also practices law“.

Mary-Anne is admitted to the Maine State Bar, the United States District Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and the Cumberland County Bar Association. Mary-Anne spent twelve years as a rostered guardian ad litem for the Maine Court System advocating for the children of Maine.She previously sat on the Family Law Advisory Commission and formerly served as Governor John Baldacci’s appointee to the Maine State Harness Racing Commission from 2007-2009. She is currently President of the Maine Professional Business Women and the National Association of Professional Women’s Greater Portland Chapter. Mary-Anne continues to focus on her community of Westbrook by sitting on the Board of Directors for the Westbrook Chamber of Commerce.

When not working, Mary-Anne enjoys snowshoeing and ice fishing in the winter, hiking, horseback riding and boating during the summer.She is also an avid gourmet cook. Mary-Anne is married and lives with her husband, Jim, along with two dogs, a cat, and a tank full of fish.
